Godfather The Game hit a lot of hitches on the way to retail with the most prominent one being the director of the original master piece’s distaste for the game. The game is supposed to put you in the shoes of one of the Corleone gangsters and experience the `20s New York life but EA couldn’t have done much worse even if they intended to.
Lets just get one thing out of the way , if you’re gonna recommend this game to anyone please make sure he ISNT a fan of the novels or the movies because this game takes the movie`s story , shoots it with a water gun till it dies and proceeds to do samba over its corpse… and that is just the beginning
Your created character is needlessly shoehorned into situations from the film. This may sound interesting but the thing is you never feel like youre there. The city dosent feel anything like what you would expect or what it is like in the movie. To add insult to injury the game gives you a total of 5 vehicles to explore it , yes that’s right 5 ! , And driving them feels more like skating. The PS2 version bogs when ever it rains , the xbox version also slowsdown in some populated areas.
The progression of the story is very poor. You never know what’s going on. Almost every mission has you going to the Corleone compound only to find out that the objective was 3 blocks away from your previous position. EA did include telephones in the game but they are just used for telling you the important stuff…like, the don wants to meet you at the compound.
The AI of the NPCs and Police is stupid at best. Go mad on the streets , choke everyone in sight ,wipe your nose clean with the newspapers from the stand and if the police come out to play , whip out your camcorder and record it cause it never happened to me. Oh , did I mention that the game is over in 6 hours ? and the fact that there are NO minigames/side quests?. you better believe it.
You might be wondering why i haven’t mentioned GTA yet since every open-ended game has to live up that name. Its simple , this game is pure garbage. A pathetic attempt at milking a reputable franchise. You should be ashamed EA!. I haven’t played True Crimes yet , but it cant be much worse than this hack job.
